Pop Art Beanie

I made this beanie from a pattern I ordered from Elinor Peace Bailey called Pop Art Beanie. Elinor wore this hat when she was at our State Quilt Convention last year. I wanted to make it and wear in tonight when I promoted her return trip to Lincoln this coming September. Tonight is our last meeting for the Lincoln Quilters Guild until she comes. In September, she will be teaching a class and giving a lecture. I’m excited to see what everyone creates. Artistic inspiration really flows when Elinor is around!!

I spent Saturday making the beanie and each time I needed to select fabric, buttons, beads or trim I always would think what would Elinor pick. It had to be colorful. Spending a day sewing is a good day!

My niece, Kate volunteered to be my model. So, we went to a building I have always admired because of the stars painted on the side of it. I think she did a great job helping me.

Special Olympics Quilt

Today, I mailed off the Special Olympics quilt top to my sister Kristine in Georgia. My sister volunteered to machine quilt it. I have been working on putting the blocks together that were created by athletes and volunteers. There are five quilts total and they will be raffled off to raise money for Special Olympics. The 2010 Special Olympics are going to be held in Lincoln, Nebraska July 18-23. Here is a link to their website. Lincoln is excited to be hosting the Special Olympics and the city has been planning for this event for a long time.

Cody's Art Selected

Cody was selected as one of the District's Outstanding Art Students of the Year. There was a reception today honoring the students. Today we got to view all the award winning art. The art will go on exhibit at businesses in Lincoln. The students will be notified where their artwork will be displayed for the year after next week.

Cody told us he created his art with pastels and charcoal.

Potholder Swap -- Thanks Bonnie!

I was so delighted to receive a package from Bonnie for the Potholder Swap held by Malka at A Stitch in Dye. Bonnie you made my package so personal. The potholders are perfect and I LOVE them. The color and style match my antiques. I like the grommets you added for hanging. And then, you made me a towel with the perfect saying on it. It's true, I'd rather be stitchin' than in the kitchen!!!! I received a recipe from Bonnie for Strawberry Cake with a Strawberry Icing. The cake sounds yummy. I will make it and post the recipe. Bonnie also added the photo of my one and only tulip to the recipe card. Another special touch!! Thank you so much Bonnie for the very special swap package!! And, by the way, Bonnie, your sewing is perfection. :)
