Eye Candy

Jeanne Wilson, owner of Perennial Button, gave a presentation on buttons to the Lincoln Sewing Guild. Jeanne got into buttons when she was shopping at a button shop in New York while she was visiting family. Jeanne liked to collect buttons and now she sells them. You can find her buttons at The Yarn Shop. They are all unique some of the types she has are plastic, wooden, shell, fabric covered, metal and even one made from found antler horns.

Salli Sternberg also talked to the group about natural fibers. Salli is the owner of The Yarn Shop. She showed us yarns made from wool, angora, cotton, flax, linen, silk, rayon, tencel and bamboo. She has many more types of yarn in her shop. Salli talked about how wool has scales, and the finer the wool, the more scales per square inch. The scales are what make the wool softer and more comfortable to wear than course wool which has less scales and will be more itchy. Wool can hold about 30 percent of its weight in moisture and will still feel dry. The moisture in the wool is what keeps you warm.
Salli talked about her knitting classes she teaches at the store. She explained how handknitting is holding the fiber in your hands as opposed to machine knitting which is mechanical. Everyone who loves working with fiber knows what it feels like to handle it with your hands. That's why fiber junkies can't get enough of it!

Hi Rebekah! What a wonderful post about this program. Can I link to it on the LSG site? Also, I'm doing links to our member's sites on the sidebar, so should I add your blog? I've really enjoyed reading it, too.
